Recently Louis Vuitton and especially Chanel have been working really hard to try to eliminate the replica handbags business online. Ha good luck! Okay, Okay I get it. Chanel and Louis Vuitton are just trying to protect their own name. But really what harm are we doing? Firstly, the price is completely different which means the market is completely different. And anyway don’t they make enough money ripping of the rich and famous? If they didn’t have a 2000% mark up on all their merchandise then we wouldn’t be forced to buy replicas.

For those of you not up to date on the new tactic, I’ll explain… Chanel has petitioned the U.S. courts to revoke the domains of sites which sell replica handbags. So what that means is web addresses that used to sell replica handbags now have intimidating warnings about lawsuits against the owners. It’s all intended to scare you out of buying replica handbags.

Here is an excerpt from the Chanel claim with responses from me in italics….

WHY SHOULD I CARE THAT I AM BUYING A COUNTERFEIT ITEM? NO ONE IS BEING HURT!
• Counterfeiters sell poor quality products. –Once upon a time this was true but things have changed. You can now get superior quality replica for a small fraction of the price of the real thing.
• Counterfeiters often engage in other unlawful conduct, such as identity theft and failing to deliver goods that were paid for. It’s true there are some fraudulent sites claiming to sell replica handbags but who are actually just out to rip you off. It is important that you stay informed and make sure you are buying from a legitimate vendor.
• Counterfeiters may be part of organized crime networks or terrorist groups, with profits often used to support their activities. I have extensive experience in this arena and can say without a doubt that this is wholly untrue. First of all replica handbags are made in China NOT Saudi Arabia. Chinese factory owners have no connection to terrorism. Although technically replica goods are illegal in China, in practice their production is encouraged. Buying replica in China is not as dirty a business as you would think. There are giant open markets for replica handbags just like there are for electronics, toys, or cloths.
• Counterfeiters do not pay taxes, leading to millions of dollars in lost revenues that would otherwise go to cities and states from the sale of legitimate goods. Although it is probably true that some replica site owners do not pay income taxes on all revenue, the factory owners in China do. Furthermore, for anyone who has ever been slapped with customs fee can attest, we do pay taxes just like anyone else buying overseas.

I for one am not intimidated by Chanel and Louis Vuitton’s scare tactics. Neither are the replica site owners who are opening up shop somewhere else. After all what is a domain? Just a name…like any other name can be changed. The problem for us is that it is hard to know where they have moved to… and even harder to know if someone stole their name. I thought about this with the debate over highreplica.com and highreplicamall.com. I mean it seems logical to me that they are the same company.  They seem to have the same design and really the names are strikingly similar but there are those that are insistent that they are different companies. I, for one d,on’t know what to think. It makes it all the more critical that we stick together and share information regularly. Let’s save all our sisters from the scammers!

A few notes to keep in mind in light of this new development. Firstly the date of domain registration no longer correctly reflects the age of a replica handbags company. Most of the successful and reliable vendors online recently lost their domains so some of the best companies now have new domains. Also, you might consider looking for sites that have a contact email that does not include their domain name. This suggests not only that they have experience with this issue, but also that they will be available to you no matter what happens to their domain.

    Great point Eva! I for one totally agree with you! One key element that Chanel and LV are missing, is that even if all of the replica handbag customers were to stop buying replicas, they would not necessarily by authentic Chanel and LV’s. One-they are over priced, and two-those who can afford the orginals and choose not to buy,me being one of them. The prices are outrageous! And for what? A name? Sorry, as you can see this really pushes my buttons! Thank you for the info!! REPLICA GALS UNITED!!! :)

      I agree with you Mellie! I think us replica lovers are more into the quality of the materials and style of the bags more than the actual name brand. I for one would buy the same bag minus the logos so long as it carried the same exact style and quality of materials.

    i would also add that replicas are a great marketing tool for these companies, if there bags & logos are visible and well-made, a girl is bound to covet! ithey would also know that their customers who buy from their stores also buy many replicas. I do believe that it works to their favor when there is a powerful combination of a celebrity (who often doesn’t pay) AND a fashionable young woman totes their bag. Without replicas, their products would not be so ‘pop’-ular. my 2 cents worth! :)

    totally agree about us targeting a different market.they’re not losing any money because we can’t afford them anyway!and the people who do have the money will obviously buy the original.plus i think its vulgar to spent that amount on a bag when there is people starving in other countries.

    Your right Sophia! If Louis, and Chanel want to make even a dent in the replica sales they should start by lowering their prices. Its seriously ridiculous how expensive the merchandise is. I think if the prices were even remotely close to something the AVERAGE middle class people could afford more people would buy authentic. I buy replica because i am such a klutz, i would be terrified to take my bag out anywhere because i wouldn’t want to ruin a thousand dollar bag. I buy replica because if i take it out into the rain and it ruins i know i can buy another one next week and still have money to save for something more important…like a vacation to Japan or something l0l. I can afford to waste my money on purses but seriously there’s better things i want to do with my money.

    I’m torn on the debate about replicas. This is an excellent post Sophia, but as a fashion-snob elitist and replica rookie (just bought my first), I feel you forgot to mention that replicas can cause too much saturation in the market and almost democratize luxury too much. For instance, horrible reps (think Canal St) can cheapen a brand and lessen the appeal of the brand by authentic luxury buyers thus destroying the image of a company we’ve all learned to love. A great example of this is LV or even Ralph Lauren and Burberry. Many feel that when a brand fails to reach its target audience then it looses its luxury. My first love, Chanel, increases its prices ever so often JUST to avoid too many women carrying it and maintain the ideal of true exclusive luxury. So, this image is spoiled when the streets are flooded with toothless Mary-Joe in cutoffs is sporting a hideously fake cambon tote etc. Not meant to be offensive, just honest.

      Hey Enis, thanks for sharing your oppinion, I respect that. Though I understand your point, mine is different. Since we`re living in the year of 2010, nowadays they make replica out of any brand, not just Chanel, LV etc. I, for example, believe that I have the right to create my own kind of luxury and feel close, or why not the same as if having the real thing. Since I`m familar with the best online shopping stores, why not shop?

    Bring down their prices!!!? NEVER!!! And even if they did, the question begs to be asked: would they be anywhere near as covetable? I mean if everyone was sporting Eva’s new Artsy bag, would any of us really want to!?

    These companies are in the luxury brands business and that (and the price points contained therein) by it’s very nature is a well marketed fraud! I mean, come on!! With the exception of a few handmade bags like Hermes etc., the manufacturing process is not a million miles away from any other well made leather goods. I happen to know for a fact that even couture is sometimes outsourced to the same factories that manufacture Target and Walmart goods, when their principle factories cannot meet production demands.

    China manufactures and exports the majority of the world’s goods, (luxury and otherwise) across the board, which is why they can produce replicas that are virtually indistinguishable from the originals!!

    My lightbulb moment came when I was desperate to replace a piece from LV, and even approached my contacts at LV (I started collecting when I was 16) for a custom order, which was impossible. After obtaining a fantastic replica and not being able to distinguish it from my beloved original, it was an “aha” for me! I haven’t looked back since!!

    But I totally agree that we should look out for our savvy sisters (and brothers) and keep up to date information on replica houses available on websites like this one!! So three cheers for Eva…..

    Thanks for the quick reply, another question since you have stated buying replicas for ur own personal use iin Canada falls into a gray area of the law. Hence I am assuming importing it from China, say like 6 bags all different ones for your self can be taken from Customs and destroyed.

    Great blog…glad i stumbled upon it accidentally two days back… 3 questions:
    1- I ordered from highreplica.com 4,5 months back and reallly liked their quality.. Whats ur expert opinion upon them? :) Also any idea what domain they r using now?
    2- I visited purse on ur recommendation and I reallly liked their stuff…But i hecked out the denim section and was less than impressed with it.       Regarding the Denim Section at PV, I gotta tell you, everything is a mirror perfect replica, after an authentic of course.

          Absolutely, the quality is great. I love the fact that whenever I can`t find a bag on PV, I run over to Bagaholics and get it from there. But if I had to choose between the two, I`d put PV first, small differences that kind of get me obsessed… :)
